National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation

The National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation (NHFDC) supports your education and training needs. The purpose of the loan is to meet tuition and other fees/maintenance cost/books and equipment etc. for pursuing professional courses in a recognised educational institution in India and abroad.

Eligibility Criteria

This support for education/ training is available for persons who meet the following criteria:

  1. You must be a citizen of India.

  2. You must have a Disability Certificate certifying that you have more than 40% disability.

Expenses considered for loan

  • Fees payable to college/school/hostel
  • Examination/Library/Laboratory fees
  • Purchase of Books/Equipment/Instruments/Uniforms
  • Caution Deposit/Building Fund/Refundable Deposit (maximum 10% tuition fees for the entire course)
  • Travel Expenses/Passage money for studies abroad
  • Purchase of computers considered necessary for completion of course
  • Cost of a Two-wheeler upto Rs. 50,000/-

Any other expenses required to complete the course like study tours, project work, Assistive devices etc.

This loan is available for those who want to pursue professional courses from a recognised educational institution in India or abroad.

Loan Conditions

The assistance is provided at the following rates of interest:

Loan amount Interest applicable
Up to INR 4 lakh NIL
Above INR 4 lakh for courses in India 5% per annum (per year)
Above INR 4 lakh for courses abroad 15% per annum (per year)

Note that:

  • The loan is to be repaid within 7 years.
  • A rebate of 0.5% interest is available to women availing of the loan.
  • The repayment schedule will commence 6 months after the scheduled date of completion of the course or after getting the job, whichever is earlier.
  • Interest would be charged from the date of disbursement of loan.
  • The beneficiary must submit a copy of the marks sheet after every term/semester to the State Channelizing Agencies for further submission to NHFDC.

How to get Loan Assistance?

The NHFDC has been set up by the Government under the Ministry of Social Justice and Environment as a not-for-profit company. It functions through:

  • State Channelizing Agencies (SCA)
  • Punjab National Bank
  • Andhra Bank
  • IDBI Bank
  • Regional Rural Banks (RRB) in the public sector

Loans for education/training up to INR 5 lakhs are sanctioned by State Channelizing Agencies.

Loans for education/training of more than INR 5 lakhs are sanctioned by the NHFDC itself.
