What is the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram?
Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) is a Government of India programme aiming to carry out early identification and intervention of the 4 ‘D’s namely – Defects at birth, Development Delays including Disability, Deficiencies and Diseases in children aged between 0 – 18 years.
What does the RBSK offer?
Your child is entitled to early detection, free treatment and management under RBSK for any of 30 identi¬fied health conditions. The list includes the following conditions also: Autism, Down Syndrome, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Cognitive Delay, Neuro-motor Disorders, Developmental Delay, Speech and Language Delay, Hearing Defects, Learning Disorder and Vision Impairment.

What are the provisions for health screening of a child under RBSK?
Health screening for new borns of age 0 – 6 weeks
Health screening for children of age 6 weeks – 6 years
Health screening of children enrolled in government schools and government aided schools
If your child is detected with a condition during one of these screenings, what happens next?
If your child is detected with a condition which is covered by the RBSK in the health screening, s/he will be referred to a District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC) at the district hospital.
The DEIC has the basic facilities to conduct tests for hearing, vision, neurological tests and behavioural assessment themselves. The DEIC will respond to and manage all issues related to conditions covered under its remit.
